Ukraine peace talks: A three-point plan to secure Ukraine and Europe

Anders Fogh Rasmussen, Rasmussen Global Founding Chairman and former NATO Secretary General, has called on European leaders to deliver concrete security guarantees to Ukraine.

“Dictators like Vladimir Putin accept only strength — and if Europe does not put its cards on the table, we risk both Ukrainian and European security being permanently undermined in US-Russia negotiations. Europe must act,” Rasmussen said.

As peace negotiations continue, Rasmussen is calling for:
1. A deployment of up to 20,000 European troops behind the lines in Ukraine to serve as a lasting, ironclad security guarantee against future Russian aggression.
2. A Europe-led air shield over western Ukraine, backed by up to 150 aircraft.
3. The unlocking of frozen Russian assets to fund Ukraine’s reconstruction and long-term military financing.

“If paper promises do not urgently become policy, the repercussions will be lasting,” Rasmussen added.
