Rasmussen Global and MEP Eva Maydell organised a public event hosted by Microsoft on the political and regulatory challenges that lie ahead for the technology sector in Europe. The #Regulation4Innovation conference began with a keynote address by Alexander Stubb, Vice President of the European Investment Bank.

Within months, a newly-elected European Parliament will assemble and be joined in Brussels by a new College of Commissioners in the European Commission. Warning bells have already sounded as to what this may mean for the technology sector: more stringent taxation and increased regulation on a variety of issues are just a few of many possible changes that the election may bring.

The panel discussed these potential reputational and political challenges, including the future of data flows, competition cases and policy, co-regulation, and the forthcoming review of the E-commerce directive. The panel also discussed the impact that Artificial Intelligence will have on society, including the labour market.

In addition to Alexander Stubb and MEP Maydell, the event heard from Bart De Liefde, Head of EU Public Policy at mobility company Bird.

The panel was moderated by Fabrice Pothier, Chief Strategy Officer, Rasmussen Global.
